There is a dated Samsung tablet in the back which seems like a bit of an afterthought. Add to that the ginormous “Hyperscreen” which his really 3 screens under the same glass that spans the width of the front of the vehicle. The sheer enormity of the interior is hard to put into words. If the inside of the EQS is anything, it is roomy. Luxury is also about futuristic and being forward thinking which is obviously EV. Likely, gas has been spilled where you are standing and the smell is in the air. Outside of New Jersey and parts of Oregon, it means you are touching a gasoline smelling handle and pumping a carcinogen. Gas stations: Nothing less luxury than having to visit a gas station.
Maybe put some curtains and windows in there? A rug? That’s luxury.
When there is no combustion, you can start to treat your garage more like an inside part of your house. In an ICE vehicle that is literal suicide. Did you know you can start your EV up in the garage and open the door once you get in the warm car? That’s kind of nice when it is very cold. Pulling the ICE car out of the garage leaving that smell and that physical stain you see in snow. Smell: I love the smell of exhaust in the morning –said no one ever.It isn’t of course and the grid is getting greener everyday. Your MAGA great uncle will send you a debunked email about how EVs just move the pollution to the plant, but even if that were 100% the case, that’s still a lot cleaner than spitting out exhaust. Even better there are fewer moving parts which also means fewer things to rattle and hum. Vibration: Electric motors don’t have explosions and that means less vibrations.Roomier: Because of the electric drivetrain which mostly lives between the wheels and the skateboard between them, the rest of the car is opened up for space.Deceleration – rather than hitting those large disc brakes and spitting out brake dust for everyone to inhale, EVs mostly rely on smooth regeneration of the energy back into the battery.Know what’s not luxury? Not being able to quickly pass a semi. But it can also do the all important 50mph-70mph passing. Acceleration: Did someone say acceleration? An EV can jump off the line quicker and more effortlessly than almost any internal combustion-engined vehicle.Gears suck: They aren’t just inefficient and disruptively rpm noisy but they are also motion jarring to the driver and passenger.EVs can be way more aerodynamic without that big air intake requirement and therefore have less road noise. Not only are ICE motors loud but they also require a lot of air intake which makes even more noise. Quieter: Maybe the most obvious and easy difference is that the Electric drivetrain is almost perfectly silent even when stomping on the gas. Here’s a quick breakdown of why EVs are so overtly superior to gas cars when it comes to luxury: Reasons why ‘electric is the only luxury’ The EQS is clearly a Mercedes and sort of part of the S Class line but it looks entirely different than the ICE side of the business, unlike BMW or Volvo for instance who swap drivetrains on familiar ICE cars to go electric.Īfter reviewing this car, I can no longer think of the S Class ICE vehicles or any of Mercedes gas cars, no matter how gaudy, as luxury items. In every instance when using AC and driving spiritedly I always got more miles than the car estimated. I think in this case, that’s conservative, especially in highway driving. That slippery aerodynamic helps the EQS achieve 340 (350 for RWD 480 version, 277 miles for AMG version) miles of EPA range on its 108kWh battery.
Mercedes Aerodynamics wizards are clearly the best in the business here. 20 drag coefficient of any current production car. While it kind of looks like a futuristic Honda accord on screen, in person it is a much more dignified and sleek silhouette with the lowest. You don’t even need to step inside the $100,000+ behemoth to know there is a lot of extra stuff going on here. In fact, at this point, I’d be reluctant to call anything with an internal combustion engine a luxury vehicle. One thing’s for certain and stood out however, electric propulsion takes luxury to a new level. I got to spend almost a week with the Mercedes EQS as my daily driver and it sure was interesting to see what it was like owning a $130,000 car.
